Transfagarasan Highway - Romania's Most Spectacular Road All the sights and places we visited in Romania have a special charm... Transfăgărăşan or DN7C is the second highest highway in Romania after Transalpina.It connects Argeş County, namely Bascov and Sibiu County, Cârţişoara, having approx. 150 km long. Its maximum altitude is 2042 m near Bâlea Lac. The construction of the road began in 1969 at Ceausescu's initiative and ended in 1974, but its completion with asphalting took place in 1980. Unfortunately, many human lives were lost during the construction due to the difficulty of this project. The road is very beautiful from Arges County to the Vidraru Dam that rises majestically above. A few kilometers before the dam is the Poenari Fortress, where you must climb no less than 1480 steps. Poenari Fortress There are many places in Romania that deserve our attention. Some even deserve our whole physical effort. When you combine sport with a visit to a fortress, you can only get something good. Coming from Curtea de Arges, just 5 km from Vidraru Dam, at 850 m altitude, there is a mysterious and legendary tourist destination. Should I climb up or not? This will be the first question that will probably arise in your mind. Because you can not see much from the bottom of the forest, something will tell you that it deserves all the trouble. Cheile Nerei trekking route Last weekend we were fascinated by the natural wonders of the Nerei Gorge (Cheile Nerei) and Ochiul Beiului Lake. Nera is a small river flowing in the south - western part of Romania, in the Mehedinti Mountains. It is a beautiful area due to the mighty mountains and the majestic Danube piercing through the rocks.  Cheile Nerei is a well know trekking route in this area, and definitely one of the most beautiful in the country! Before I got there I was more concerned about the dilemma: is it a hard trekking here or not?  But once on the way, I was completely captured by the water show in its various forms. It is the waterfall of La Vaioaga, the absolute silence of the Beihai Eye, and the lazy drizzly of the Beusnita waterfall. On the way - which lasts for about an hour and is (very) easy - I met several families with children of all ages. Out of all of the people we met, I keep thinking of a girl who was running through cold crystalline water. There was so much joy in her eyes it made me happy for the rest of the day. So if you plan on going to Nera Keys, you might just as well take your children with you. It is really easy and convenient for families. As for us, we were a group of friends :)   The way there Back to our route: it is no hard work to get by car to the starting point for this trekking.
